Oric Software Lists

Welcome to the latest version of my database of Oric software. Here, you will find details of many of the Oric programs which were released by software houses over the years, be they arcade games, text adventures, programming utilities or business programs. This list represents several years of research, which is still ongoing. The UK software scene has been pretty well covered, but there are large gaps for programs from other countries.

The Rules of the Software list

Column 1 is the software title, ignoring prefixes such as "A", "An", or "The" which appear at the end of the title. For example - Hobbit, The or View To A Kill, A. This avoids confusion as to where to look for an item, so you'll find The Hobbit under H, not T. The same applies to French software, the "Le", "La" or "L'" appearing at the end. Exceptions should only occur where I have made a mistake!
Column 2 is the software house that released the title, if known.
Column 3 is the type of program. The categories are very broad and you may not agree with where I have put them. However, they are as follows:
AD - Adventure (text, text with graphics or even just graphics if it is more adventure than arcade oriented).
AR - Arcade, everyones favourite shoot-'em-ups.
CO - Compilation or compendium of programs.
NO - Novelty - quite simply, a program which I can't fit into one of the other categories.
SP - Sports games. Those based on real life sports.
ST - Strategy or Simulation. Flight or other "simulators" (such as fruit machines), board games (such as chess etc.) and turn based or real time battlefield simulations.
UT - Utilities and business software such as Character Generator or Oric-Calc (a spreadsheet).
Column 4 gives a few notes about the program, maybe a brief description or the authors name. For the uninitiated, SEU stands for shoot-'em-up - a common term for arcade games such as Invaders or Galaxians. Items marked "Released??" were advertised or rumoured, but their definite existence has not been proved - information on such items is gladly accepted. :-)

All the information has been gathered by myself by pouring through hundreds of magazines and publications as well as collecting books and software. Over the years, a lot of information on software and books has come from Jon Haworth, so a special mention is due to him for his diligent researching. Special thanks also to Steve Marshall with whom I have discussed the existence of many an unusual title. The quest for accuracy continues!
